Summit Proceedings

The purpose of the Inaugural Summit on Youth Philanthropy was to begin the collaborative process of exploring, defining and maximizing the important role of youth philanthropy throughout the Greater Chicago Area and the State of Illinois.

As the first-ever event of its kind, 40 Summit participants, by invitation only, included business, philanthropic, financial, nonprofit and governmental leaders who sat down with youth leaders to address current challenges and opportunities in youth philanthropy and greater community engagement.

The goal of the Summit was to bring together youth and adult members of the community in a face-to-face dialogue focused on the challenges and opportunities offered by youth philanthropy programming and civic engagement.

Participants were assigned to round tables of eight consisting of a mix of business and financial services executives, foundation leaders, nonprofit professionals, elected officials and, of course, youth leaders whose backgrounds demonstrated significant involvement in philanthropy through TPI.

Participants at each table were asked to address an important challenge or topical issue pertaining to youth philanthropy. One person at each table served as facilitator of the topic. At the conclusion of the discussion, a participant from each table summarized their conversation for the entire group.
